Ricketts emphasizes ag’s importance to Nebraska’s economy

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says he’ll emphasize the importance of agriculture to the state’s economy during Agriculture Week stops across the state this week.

Ricketts says when agriculture is struggling financially, it affects everyone in the state.

“When that happens to our largest industry, we see that show up in our state revenues,” Ricketts says. “Our revenues have been missing forecasts for the last several months and the forecasting board just took our forecast down for next year.

“So it does impact the people here in Lincoln and Omaha, not just people that are outside of our big cities. They need to know that—that agriculture is important—and we need to promote it.”

Ricketts made those comments Monday in interview with Brownfield.
