Ricketts asks for SNAP bill to be included in 2023 Farm Bill

Nebraska US Senator Pete Ricketts says the 2023 Farm Bill needs to include a bill that would expand resources for nutrition programs.

During a call with reporters this week, he said he’s asked the Ag Committee to add his SNAP Next Step Act to the next farm bill. “So that we can help families reduce their dependence on the government and be able to help them get jobs that will be able to increase their quality of life as well as increase their income.”

It would provide recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) access to resources to job training and career opportunities.

Ricketts also addressed other priorities. “And we need to have a strong crop insurance program. We need to have conservation programs with no strings attached and then of course, we want to continue to support our programs that help us expand our trade overseas.”

He says that an extension of the current Farm Bill is likely but is optimistic that the new legislation will be robust and bipartisan.
