Minnesota farmer concerned RFS fight could harm biodiesel

Jim Willers of Beaver Creek tells Brownfield he’s hoping for a quick resolution between ethanol and oil interests.

“I don’t get too involved in politics but as a farmer I know the (Renewable Fuel Standard) is very important to all biofuels.  And the fight is basically over ethanol, not biodiesel.  But the problem is we’re caught in the middle of the fight because of the RFS.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is calling for a 10-cent cap on RINs, a credit used to incentivize ethanol.

Willers says the RFS should be left alone.

“It’s very important to agriculture to have biofuels.”

He points out biodiesel makes up nearly 35 percent of domestic soybean oil consumption annually.
