RFA glad ethanol on China’s list but needs details

The head of the Renewable Fuels Association is encouraged that ethanol is on China’s list for reduced import tariffs.  Geoff Cooper tells Brownfield Ag News, “We’re told that ethanol is on that list of products that would be exempt from the existing tariffs but we’re still seeking details on exactly what that means.”

Cooper says they’re not clear about the volumes of ethanol that might be exempted but he says things are at least moving in the right direction, “Until we see boats on the water headed that direction I think the marketplace is, you know, going to continue to be a bit wary and a bit skeptical until we see some real movement here.”

U.S. fuel ethanol going into China is currently subject to a 70% tariff. China has not been importing U.S. ethanol since the trade war began.
