RFA: ethanol, DDGS exports up in March

U.S. ethanol exports shot higher in March.

The Renewable Fuels Association says the monthly total of 133 million gallons was up 31% from February, with 48.3 million gallons of that headed to China, their second biggest month for U.S. ethanol imports on record.

Canada hit a four-month high at 34.2 million gallons and imports by India of 16.8 million gallons were up 13% on the month, while shipments to South Korea and Brazil fell by 67% and 32%, respectively.

Exports of distillers dried grains with solubles were 882,553 tons, an increase of 13% from the previous month, with 174,928 tons of the total headed to Mexico, and Vietnam and South Korea also passing the 100,000 ton threshold.

For the first quarter of 2021, ethanol exports were 399.3 million gallons, down 18% from the first quarter of 2020, and quarterly distillers dried grains with solubles shipments were 2.58 million tons, 6% slower than the year ago pace.

The RFA says March’s ethanol imports were minimal, 6,160 gallons from Canada, and first quarter imports were the lowest in four years.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out Wednesday, May 12th.
