Reports: Trump-Xi meeting ‘highly unlikely’ before March 1 deadline

The White House indicates it’s “highly unlikely” President Trump will meet with China’s President Xi ahead of the March 1st deadline to reach a trade deal.

Officials say the Trump and Xi are still planning to meet. But they say there’s still much work to be done before the two presidents can complete a deal.

Chief trade negotiator Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will travel to Beijing next week to continue talks.

Trump has threatened to raise tariffs on 200 billion dollars of Chinese goods from ten percent to 25 percent if a trade deal is not reached by March 1st.
