Rehagen: the industry is well on its way to 6 billion gallons

The CEO of Clean Fuels Alliance America says the industry is well on its way to annually producing 6 billion gallons of biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.

Donnell Rehagen says the organization first unveiled this vision in 2020. And, he says it was a natural step to rebrand from National Biodiesel Board to Clean Fuels Alliance America in 2022.

“We specifically stated in that vision that we would be growing to a 6-billion gallon industry made up of biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel,” he says. “It seemed logical that if that was truly our vision that we needed to expand the brand we depend on and built a huge reputation on.”

He tells Brownfield the industry continues to grow.

“At that time, we were pretty close to a two-billion gallon industry and currently we’re a shade over a three-billion gallon industry,” he says. “We’re expecting this calendar year of 2023 to probably see another 500-800 million gallons of renewable diesel capacity come online and probably something similar to that in 2024.”

Rehagen says the future is looking bright.

“We knew that we had markets that would be demanding the fuels that we were bringing to the marketplace, it was just a matter of syncing up market demand, feedstock production, as well as production of the fuels,” he says. “I feel really good about where we’re at three years into this. I think we’ll reach that vision goal well before 2030.”

The 2023 Clean Fuels Conference kicked off today and runs through Thursday.
