Record year for CHS

The nation’s largest farmer-owned cooperative is celebrating a record year for sales and earnings.

CHS CEO Jay Debertin says for the fiscal year ending August 31st, the Minnesota-based company reported net income of $1.7 billion and revenues of nearly $48 billion.

“We had a record year, and a very very strong fourth quarter. So really really strong performance across all the platforms of CHS in the year we just closed up, and now we’re on to the next year.”

He tells Brownfield the energy segment of CHS was up $600 million from a year ago while the ag sector saw a $650 million jump.

“And that came from things like grain handling, grain opportunities, processing, soybean processing. Just really really strong performance within all those areas.”

Debertin says in the nitrogen production area, a joint venture with CF Industries, earnings were $357 million more than the previous year.
