Record September cheese stocks reported

U.S. cheese inventories hit a record for September while dairy stocks declined from August.

In USDA’s latest Cold Storage report, cheese stocks totaled nearly 1.5 billion pounds, up one percent from 2021, while down one percent on the month. Other types of cheese, like mozzarella and parmesan, also set a monthly high record.

Butter inventories were down 18 percent from last year and four percent from the previous month at more than 267 million pounds.
