A record for total and specialty cheese, less butter in cold storage

Butter, American cheese, and Swiss cheese stocks in cold storage are down from last month, but still higher than a year ago.

USDA says there was 347.4 million pounds of butter stored as of June 30^th compared to 367.8 million pounds the previous month and 330.8 million pounds in June of 2022.

Total cheese in cold storage for June 30^th was 1.5 billion pounds, setting a record for total cheese and varieties other than American and Swiss.

American-style cheese totaled 853.3 million pounds compared to 857 million pounds in May and 846.7 million pounds in June of 2022.  Swiss cheese in storage was 22.6 million pounds, down from the previous month and year.
