Recent Farm Bill discussion focuses on ag spending

One of the key issues in the farm bill discussions is whether ag spending will have to be curtailed.

Randy Kron is president of Indiana Farm Bureau.

“Agriculture gave up a lot of money the last farm bill in advance saying we were willing to do to when nobody else is,” he says. “If we’re going to have to take cuts again, I want to make sure others make some sacrifices along the way too and it’s not just agriculture taking cuts.”

He tells Brownfield he wants Secretary Perdue to understand the concerns of Hoosier farmers as the Farm Bill discussions continue.

“We had a diverse taskforce of 30 farmers across the state– large, small, specialty crops, row crops, everything,” he says. “I actually gave (Perdue) the paper with our recommendations for he understood what farmers across the state were thinking or what they thought was important.”

Kron was part of the group of Indiana agriculture members who met with Perdue during his final Back To Our Roots tour stop at the Indiana State Fair.
