Ranking member of Senate Ag Committee ready to tackle the farm bill

The ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee says he doesn’t want to wait too long to get to work on the next farm bill.

Arkansas Senator John Boozman says they need to go to work right now.  “And try an establish how we need to clean the farm bill up,” he says.  “I think we can do that with significant tweaking here and there in the different sectors.  We have the framework to go forward.”

During a Q&A session with National Farmers Union president Rob Larew on Monday, Boozman said work needs to be done to get agriculture on the same page as the Biden administration on issues like conservation and President Biden’s 30×30 executive order.  “It was hard to get people to sign up when commodity prices were low,” he says.  “And now that commodity prices are higher, and hopefully they’re going to get higher still, how do you do that?  Those are the kinds of things we need to flesh out.”

The National Farmers Union annual meeting runs through March 2nd.
