Rains provide a boost for late-planted soybeans in Tennessee

Recent rainfalls helped improve some crop conditions, despite being too late to help the corn crop.  Late-planted soybeans have shown noticeable improvement with the recent showers.

Soybeans are rated 42% good to excellent, with 86% blooming, and 59% setting pods.  Cotton is rated 48% good to excellent, 98% of cotton is squaring, 82% setting bolls, and 1% with bolls opening. Corn is rated 31% good to excellent with 97% silking, 78% in the dough stage, and 32% dented.  Tobacco is 85% topped and 50% is rated good to excellent.  Tobacco fieldwork has been hindered by the recent rainfall.

Pastures are rated 47% good to excellent, and while conditions have improved, many livestock producers are still concerned about hay yields and availability. 

Topsoil moisture is 79% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 76% adequate to surplus.
