Rain for southern Iowa crops

Southwest Iowa farmer Duane Aistrope says Mother Nature provided much-needed relief for his crops this week.

“The corn was really rolling big time,” he said. “It was protecting itself from the harsh winds and hot temperatures.”

He tells Brownfield he remains optimistic about this year’s crop. “Stuff is still looking pretty good,” Aistrope said. “Our beans seem like they are a week and a half to two weeks behind normal on the closing of our 15-inch rows. Normally by this time of the year we are several inches taller in our bean growth.”

Aistrope says he plans to start fungicide applications within the next week on some of his early planted corn. He farms near Randolph in Fremont County.
