Public comment open on Michigan ag practices

BrownfieldAppImageMichigan’s department of agriculture is starting the annual review process of the state’s agricultural management practices.

The department is accepting comments on Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices of Manure Management and Utilization, Care of Farm Animals and Site Selection, and Odor Control for New and Expanding Livestock Facilities.

Farmers who abide by the guidelines are protected by Right to Farm laws from nuisance lawsuits.  The Michigan Commission on Agriculture and Rural Development reviews those management practices every year.

A public input meeting will be held Thursday, September 8th in Lansing.
