Practical farm research highlighted at Beck’s Southern Illinois Field Show

Around 1500 farmers and ag professionals are gathered in southern Illinois today to gather management tips from Beck’s practical farm research (PFR).

Beck’s PFR Director Jim Schwartz is helping growers put $100/per acre back in their pocket by sharing proven success strategies on things like seed treatments, row width, fungicide timing, closing wheels and planting dates.

“We are spending a lot of time talking about planting dates in corn and soybeans as well. It is a little odd because over the years a lot of growers got used to planting corn and then soybeans, but when we look at 15-year data we find that there is a higher return on planting soybeans early than there is for corn. It is very counterintuitive for growers.”

He tells Brownfield what farmers should take away from the field show in Effingham, Illinois. “I always tell growers when they come here, look for one thing that they can apply on their farm, give it a try, test it out and see if it helps improve profitability.”

The event features field tours, agronomist presentations, a trade show and more. Check back with Brownfield for more coverage of the event.
