Potato growers advocating in D.C.

Potato growers want lawmakers to support Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance priorities in the 2023 legislation.

Kam Quarles is the CEO of the National Potato Council.

“We do think we’ve put together the best set of recommendations that will make the fruit and vegetable industry in the United States competitive for the life of this farm bill,” he says.

He tells Brownfield specialty crop research initiatives are overprescribed and need additional funding.  Members also want to ensure that USDA has the resources it needs to support trade promotion, technical assistance, and the exclusion and eradication of pest and disease threats.

Growers are in D.C. this week for the National Potato Council’s Washington Summit to advocate for farm bill and trade priorities.
