Chris Novak, CEO of the National Pork Board (NPB) told those attending the Ohio Pork Producer Council Annual Meeting on Tuesday, December 11 that even with all the issues and challenges the pork industry has been facing, the pork checkoff is making a difference.

“We’re seeing some strength in terms of our domestic marketing measures, how we’re tracking our “Pork be Inspired” advertising campaign and how that’s being received by consumers who, when they have seen or heard our advertising are buying more pork than what they did,” said Novak. “That’s a positive signal that we’re on the right track and doing the right things.”

Even so, Nokak recognizes that at the end of the day it’s the bottom line that is the ultimate measure of success in the pork industry.

“When we are facing what may be again near record feed prices, losses in the pork industry because of those feed prices, there are a lot of challenges ahead for producers,” Novak said. “We understand that and are going to continue to fight and work on their behalf.”
