Policy certainty needed for biodiesel industry

The biodiesel industry is pushing for policy certainty with the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Chad Stone, with the Renewable Energy Group, is the newly elected chairman of the National Biodiesel Board.

He says the National Biodiesel Board will continue to encourage the administration to uphold RFS volumes and enable growth in advanced biofuels.

“One of the biggest things we need to shine a spotlight on is how will small refinery exemptions and the estimates for those be handled,” he says. “We need to be really vigilant about ensuring that people are following through on what they’ve promised and said they were going to do.”

Stone says the industry needs policy certainty.

“It really value added to agriculture – it’s 65 cents on a bushel of soybeans and $16 on a head of cattle so we can’t allow the Renewable Fuel Standard to be undermined and to have a back door that could really deflate the value of what that brings to the Midwest and the US,” he says.

Stone has served on the National Biodiesel Board executive committee for several years. He says he’s looking forward to NBB’s new vision promoting growth and highlighting the benefits of biodiesel.
