POET purchases Savannah Marine Terminal

POET has acquired the Georgia-based Savannah Marine Terminal in an effort to address supply chain bottlenecks.

Greg Breukelman, president of POET Bioproducts, says the investment will help improve logistics issues. “With the rail access we have into Savannah, along with the availability of the containers, just makes it a key part of the supply chain for distillers grains getting to various parts of the world via container,” he said.

He tells Brownfield the acquisition includes all equipment and real estate to operate the grain transload facility. “This really allows us to serve our customers better, not just ensuring supply chain, but also traceability of product and so forth.”

The Port of Savannah is one of the highest volume container ports in the US.
