Pleasant week of planting

The president of the Michigan Corn Growers Association says the planting season is running about average to slightly ahead.

Randy Poll of Hamilton started planting last week.

“We are 20 percent done with corn, actually ahead of schedule with soybeans with 60 percent of the soybeans in,” he shares.  “It is definitely drier than it has been the last few years.”

He tells Brownfield planting takes place alongside the daily operations of their farrow to finish hog farm and ordering supplies ahead has helped the process move smoothly.

“In two to three weeks we can usually get it wrapped up pretty easily,” he says.

As the growing season advances, Poll says he is closing monitoring for any signs corn tar spot as the disease continues to spread across the state.
