Planting progress continues in Iowa

More planting progress for Iowa soybean farmers.

Southwest Iowa farmer Dave McGargill says there were other limiting factors that slowed down the start of soybean planting. “The soil temp was kind of low and so we were a little scared to put too many beans in the ground,” he said. “I know there were quite a few beans in this area that were planted early.”

Field conditions have improved, and they were able to switch over to beans this week.

He tells Brownfield this is the time of year they typically finish planting, but, “I would say we are probably going to end up seven-to-10 days behind what our regular pace is, but we’re happy with what we’ve got so far,” McGargill said.

McGargill farms near Randolph with his brother Kenny.
