Planting progress continues in Arkansas

Farmers throughout Arkansas faced another week of moderate to heavy precipitation.  Ninety-seven percent of the corn crop is planted with 93% emerged, and 72% rated good to excellent.  Ninety-three percent of rice has been planted with 81% emerged and 78% of the crop is rated good to excellent.  Seventy-one percent of soybeans have been planted with 55% emerged and 73% rated good to excellent.  Cotton is 71% planted and 39% emerged.  Peanuts are 81% planted with 49% emerged. 

The winter wheat crop is rated 61% good to excellent with 91% of the crop headed and 45% coloring.  Alfalfa hay is rated 48% good with 22% of the first hay cutting is complete.  Fifty-five percent of pastures are rated good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture is rated 91% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is rated 92% adequate to surplus.
