Planting finished for South-Central Nebraska farmer

South Central Nebraska Farmer Jay Reiners says he finished planting in record time this spring. “It was a quick planting season around here,” he says.

The corn and soybean grower near Juniata tells Brownfield despite a small cold snap, planting conditions were nearly perfect. “Planting went pretty good this year, little hiccups.” he says. “We had some gremlins in the planter for some unknown reason. I think most of the neighborhood around me is done with corn and beans.”

He says he planted beans in the middle of April right before temperatures dropped. “They’re coming up. I can see them from the road. I’m not too concerned about them. The agronomist says they’re doing just fine,” Reiners said.

Reiners says they received a inch of much-needed rain Sunday night but said neighbors to the west got nearly four inches.
