Planters out in force in west-central Iowa

Planters dot the landscape in west-central Iowa.

Greene County corn and soybean grower Tim Bardole says after weeks of cool weather, spring has finally arrived.

“Right now looking around there’s all kinds of planters running, but there’s definitely a lot of fields that are already planted. It’s kind of winding down.”

Bardole has finished planting corn and is half done with soybeans.

He tells Brownfield conditions in western Iowa remain dry.

“All of April we had just under an inch of rain, which as wet as April can be and usually is, that’s very concerning with dry subsoil. So a rain would be very welcome.”

Bardole says western Iowa is going on year three of drought.
