Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation has announced a deal to buy Minnesota-based GNP Company, a branded-chicken products provider for the upper Midwest, for 350 million dollars in cash.

GNP is owned by Illinois-based pork production company The Maschhoffs. With production facilities in Gold Spring and Luverne, Minnesota and Arcadia, Wisconsin, GNP markets chicken products under the Just Bare and Gold’n Plump brands. The company has approximately 400 family farm partners and more than 17-hundred employees.

Pilgrim’s Pride officials say the acquisition of GNP will allow Pilgrim’s to expand its production and customer bases into geographic areas where it is not currently present. Pilgrim’s also plans to leverage GNP’s use of innovative technologies, such as gas stunning, aeroscalding and automated deboning, to enhance its production efficiencies.

Pilgrim’s Pride is a business unit of JBS SA.
