Peterson Farm Brothers reflect on harvest

A dry harvest season in the Western Corn Belt and High Plains has pushed crops along faster than normal and is giving many farmers a new set of challenges to end 2020.

For Greg Peterson of the Peterson Farm Brothers, it’s the dust that’s causing issues as their harvest recently crossed the halfway mark.

“Some of these crops that we’ve been harvesting have been so dusty it’s causing some problems with being able to see, and just breathing in a lot of dust.”

The abnormally dry weather he tells Brownfield has also caused sprouting issues in their winter wheat crop because of the lack of moisture.

The Petersons grow soybeans, corn, sorghum, and sunflowers in central Kansas.

Brownfield interviewed Greg Peterson recently about harvest and the 4-H Pollinator Habitat Program.
