Peterson calls for concessions to end shutdown

The chairman of the House Ag Committee says he is willing to make concessions on border security to end the government shutdown.

Minnesota Democrat Collin Peterson is calling for fellow Democrats to approve President Trump’s border wall funding.  He says the $5.7 billion request should have conditions and be used to strengthen border security where it is needed.

Minnesota farmer Bob Worth is in Peterson’s district and says his congressman does what’s best for his constituents even if it’s working across the aisle.

“Nobody wants to work on either side of the aisle like they used to work.  When they start doing that, it just goes a lot better, government goes a lot better, people get along better, and a lot of things can be handled behind the scenes instead of out in front like this.”

The Senate will vote on two proposals, one from Democrats, one from Republicans, to end the shutdown Thursday. Both are expected to fail.

The chief U.S. economist for S&P Global estimates the shutdown will cost the U.S. economy more than $6 billion by the end of this week.
