Perdue tells Congress MFP only likely “if”

Ag Secretary Perdue tells House Ag Committee members what he is telling farmers, to not expect the Market Facilitation Program to be a price support program.

“So if we see trade increase and prices don’t go up, that’s a market signal to farmers who are producing too much!”

Perdue says President Trump is only willing to support 2020 MFP payments IF the trade does not materialize.

“None of us, obviously, know what the impact of the coronavirus and that’s yet to be determined. We’re going to do what we’ve always done and do what needs to be done in that regard, nationally and internationally, in that way.”

Perdue testified that the administration sees China’s sincerity in wanting to fulfill the ag purchases in the phase-one trade deal.
