Perdue says it’s too soon to talk about solutions to tariffs that aren’t in place yet

There is talk of the USDA creating programs to compensate farmers who experience losses if Chinese tariffs are implemented.

But, Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says it’s too soon to talk specifics because tariffs haven’t been implemented yet.

“It’s unwise to be specific about what actions are going to be taken,” he says.

China said it would place tariffs on 50 billion dollars of US goods after the US announced tariffs on Chinese products because of China’s alleged theft of intellectual property. Perdue says he supports President Trump’s decision.

“And that’s just unfair trade and (President Trump) is one that’s courageous enough to call them on it and say that,” he says.

Perdue says he hopes China and the US will resolve the dispute in the next 30-60 days.
