Perdue says disaster aid will come quickly

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the disaster aid bill took longer to pass than he would have liked, but he vows farmers will see the benefits of the bill in a much shorter time frame.

“We want to help people survive to farm and to go another day.”

Perdue says growers of crops that already have USDA safety net programs should see relief within weeks, not months.

“We’ve got a base of principles in which to act that will enable us to move very quickly.”

He says producers of products without safety net programs, like timber and pecan trees, will be waiting a little longer while a program is implemented.
