Perdue talks China deal when asked about another MFP tranche

Ag Secretary Perdue told reporters over the weekend that trade deals are the answer to farmers woes when asked if there would be a third round of trade mitigation payments.

“I think if we can get this China deal done where they’ve committed to buy virtually twice what they’ve bought in the future, hopefully we won’t need any. I think this will impact prices and being able to move products and that’s what farmers want.”

Perdue addressed the 4H Congress in Atlanta and spoke with reporters afterwards. He told the students that despite low commodity prices and trade disruptions they have a bright future in agriculture.

As for farmers today, Perdue said, “They’re some of the most resilient people you’ll ever run into. They just keep on keepin’ on.”
