Perdue expects third round of 2019 MFP payments

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says he is expecting a third round of 2019 Market Facilitation Program payments to be needed.

“We don’t see a market move that would make it not needed for the third tranche after the first of the year.”

Perdue told reporters in Nebraska that no commitments are being made on a Market Facilitation Program for 2020.

“If we can get a deal with China, if markets move, if we can accumulate these trading relationships that we have and we get back to a more stable trade relationship, I would be hopeful that we wouldn’t need a third market facilitation program.”

Perdue says USDA authorizes the money, but the Office of Management and Budget makes the allocation, adding that they were very helpful in getting the second tranche out before Thanksgiving.

  • Thank you for the first 2 payments of the map program.i am hoping and praying for the final payment.we need it very badly,we farm in Deep South texas. In 2019 we had to sell our grain .40 per cwt. cheaper than I did my first year of farming in 1979. We could use another map in 2020 , there are so many things work against us and very few that work in our favor. The deal with China may look good but it will take time for it to get down here . China has also found alternate countries to buy ag goods from that May or may not come back to USA. No one is talking about that.please send our 3rd payment and we could use another in 2020 to really just survive. We hope and pray for this and thank you for reading my note.
