Pacelle seeks spot on Tyson’s board

The president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Wayne Pacelle, wants to join the board of directors of Tyson Foods.

Pacelle says he has filed paperwork as a candidate for election to the Tyson board.

His chief objective, Pacelle says, is to get Tyson to commit to a definite time frame to phase out the use of gestation stalls for sows.  So far, Tyson has resisted pressure from HSUS to move towards stall-free pork production.

Pacelle says HSUS owns “a modest amount” of stock in Tyson Foods and regularly urges the company to revamp its policies.
