Outlook for the livestock sector continues to improve

The outlook for the livestock sector continues to improve for 2021.

Michael Nepvuex is an economist with American Farm Bureau.

“Moving forward, I think we have a slightly smoother sailing,” he says. The world is starting to look better in terms of how we’re dealing with COVID and as the vaccine becomes more widespread, we’re looking at a little bit brighter of a picture.”

He says domestic demand for beef is up.

“They actually saw really strong beef demand throughout the pandemic, and I think that’s only going to continue moving forward,” he says.

Nepvuex says the processing sector has also adapted.

“As we see the vaccine rollout in combination with meatpacker worker’s adaptation to dealing with COVID in the plants, I don’t think we’ll see the disruption we saw last year,” he says.
