Opinions on farm bill programs needed

Michigan Farm Bureau continues to gather input on what the 2023 Farm Bill needs to include.

National legislative counsel John Kran tells Brownfield their organization recently held a series of listening sessions to hear farmer concerns.

“It’s important that we hear from people now so that this farm bill can be written over the next year and have the right components we need,” he says.

An online survey is also underway to gather farmer feedback.

“They can rank some of these programs, they have an opportunity to provide specifics on if they’d like to see changes and if there are barriers that have kept them from using some of the programs,” he explains.  “We also ask about the level of service farmers are receiving.”

Kran says Michigan Farm Bureau plans to use the information throughout county and state levels and advocate for program changes at the American Farm Bureau Federation Convention this winter.
