Open enrollment underway for Minnesota healthcare cooperative 40 Square

Open enrollment is underway for Minnesota’s only independent healthcare cooperative.

40 Square executive director Char Vrieze tells Brownfield their focus is on providing farm families and agribusinesses across the state access to self-funded health plan options.

“Folks are still out in the field, getting out of the field, cleaning up their equipment, so there are still things to do and I know that they’re busy. But the dates are November 1st through December 20th.”

She says there are a variety of health plans including health savings accounts.

Vrieze also points out like traditional health insurance, 40 Square has an annual deductible, coinsurance and copays that members are responsible for.

“And new for this year, we are offering an additional network in the south-central and southeastern part of the state with Aetna.”

Vrieze says one of the requirements to becoming a member of 40 Square is to be actively working in production agriculture in Minnesota.
