Okla. groups/producers defend state beef referendum

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau and members of several state cattle breeding groups say they stand united and confident in the process used by the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and the state Ag Department to prepare for the upcoming referendum on a state beef checkoff.

They call the Organization of Competitive Markets (OCM) and R-CALF USA out-of-state activist groups trying to stop the referendum. Those two groups have filed a complaint with the Oklahoma Supreme Court saying the process is unconstitutional, in an attempt to stop the state Ag Department from certifying the referendum.

Earlier this week, Oklahoma cattle industry leaders – anticipating the court action – issued a statement saying they are confident in the process for the referendum and that Oklahoma cattle producers deserve the right to vote.

  • seems that after losing over 2million in producers money that we don’t need to allow the state beef council any more money to squander. It is ridiculous to let an inept group such as the beef council to have any more of our hard earned money. They were negligent before so why think they w ill be any better this timel
