Ohio senators standing up to Great Lakes Restoration Initiative cuts

Ohio Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman are working together to restore support for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

Brown says President Trump’s budget proposes a 90 percent cut of $270 million to the initiative.

“It’s necessary and if the Great Lakes are not stabilized and kept as clean as possible the whole region suffers,” he says.

He says this isn’t the first time the president has proposed cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the two senators have previously worked to make sure it was fully funded.

“You don’t just clean it up and ignore it, you clean it up and continue the cleanup,” he says.

Brown spoke to reporters during the Ohio Farm Bureau County Presidents’ Trip in D.C. last week.
