Ohio farmers take advantage of dry weather during harvest

Weather conditions remained good in Ohio for farmers to make progress on fall harvest last week. The USDA’s Ag Statistics Office in Ohio says the corn and soybean harvest is progressing quickly with the warmer dry weather but those conditions did prohibit tillage and seeding in crop fields. Frost moved into some areas of the state towards the end of the week.

As of Sunday, 62-percent of soybeans had been harvested in Ohio, up almost 20-percentage points from last week and well ahead of the average.

About 36-percent of Ohio corn had been harvested, up 13-percent from last week and eight-percent ahead of the five year average.

Sixty-one percent of winter wheat has been planted, up about 30-percent from last week and slightly ahead of the average.

The final cutting of hay is wrapping up.
