Ohio Farm Bureau Washington D.C. Leadership Experience is underway

Ohio Farm Bureau farmer leaders are meeting with lawmakers and highlighting top priority issues in Washington D.C. this week.

County Farm Bureau presidents, young agricultural professionals, and AgriPOWER Class XIII members are advocating for Ohio agriculture.

Ohio Farm Bureau President Bill Patterson tells Brownfield “what that offers us is a tremendously diverse opportunity to talk to our legislators about everything related to agriculture and rural Ohio.”

Priority issues include the 2023 Farm Bill, climate, environmental regulations, inflation, supply chain concerns, trade, and more.

Patterson says members have the opportunity to help legislators make the connection between policy in D.C. and what’s happening on Ohio farms.

“What these legislators, I think, are looking for is how does this actually affect their voters and constituents,” he says. “So from a Farm Bureau standpoint, we can equip all these volunteers, this grassroots organization, with background information and they’re then able to tell their story.”

He says it’s a privilege to be with the delegation to network, enjoy the time together, and advocate for Ohio agriculture.
