Ohio Farm Bureau funds water quality efforts

The Ohio Farm Bureau and partnering organizations are investing more than $1 million in country water quality projects this year.

Ohio Farm Bureau senior director of corporate communications Joe Cornely tells Brownfield the organization launched a water quality action plan after the Toledo water crisis.  “Farmers being the conservationists that they are, they’ve always paid attention to water quality, but an incident back in 2014 when half a million people around Toledo were told don’t drink the water shot it to the top of every farmer’s list”

He says projects require matching funds from local partners and will support research initiatives and public outreach between communities and area farmers.  “Ultimately the goal is to obtain this balance between protecting water quality and preserving economic sustainability.”

The Ohio Farm Bureau has invested $2.3 million in water quality efforts as part of the organization’s water quality action plan. More details can be found here.
