Ohio crops: 57% corn, 53% soybeans rated good to excellent

More favorable weather conditions helped Ohio farmers make progress in the fields this past week. According to the latest USDA Crop and Weather report, 57 percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent. Ninety percent of the corn crop is silking, 36 percent is in the dough stage, and 1 percent has dented.

Soybeans are rated 53 percent good to excellent, with 83 percent of the crop blooming, and 57 percent setting pods.

Oats harvest is 86 percent complete. Ninety-five percent of the second cutting of alfalfa hay is finished and 31 percent of the third cutting of alfalfa is complete.

Topsoil moisture is 94 percent and subsoil moisture is 96 percent adequate to surplus.
