Efforts to expand the market for U.S. ethanol in Mexico are gaining momentum.

Ron Lamberty with the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) says there’s growing interest from fuel retailers in Mexico. And he says the market may develop even quicker than expected.

“This was a market they didn’t really think would do any volume until about 2025—and I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re doing some pretty good volume there in the next couple years,” Lamberty says.

According to the U.S. Grains Council, Mexico imported only 31 million gallons of U.S. ethanol last year, but has the potential to be one-billion gallon market if all gasoline was blended with 10 percent ethanol.
