OCM leadership supports GIPSA rules, wants to meet with Trump

The president of the Organization for Competitive markets says he hopes President Trump takes a long look at all regulations before moving to repeal them.

Earlier this week President Trump issued an executive order that would delay the implementation of several regulations, including the GIPSA rule. Mike Weaver says the OCM will be sending notice to President Trump and USDA in support of the rules.

“We’re hoping that President Trump will take a look at the regulations he intends to nullify because the GIPSA rules are a good thing for farmers. We’re hoping he doesn’t just, cross the board, cancel everything that’s been put in place,” says Weaver.

He tells Brownfield is organization wants to meet with President Trump.

“The Organization for Competitive Markets would like to have a meeting with President Trump. We feel like the small family farmer is not well represented in his administration right now and we’d like to have some say so in what goes on at the Department of Agriculture,” says Weaver.

Brownfield spoke with Weaver at the Ohio Farmers Union annual meeting in Columbus.
