NRCS offers emergency funds to restore flood-prone lands

The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is offering an extra 75-Million-dollars in emergency funds to restore flood-prone lands.

The deadline to apply is October 9th for the funds that will be used for conservation easements on certain lands damaged by flooding and other natural disasters.

Eight-three counties in Missouri are eligible. State conservationist Scott Edwards says a lot of Missouri landowners have experienced flooding and natural disasters.

The Floodplain Easement Program is designed to alleviate the stress of operating in a flood plain while still retaining property ownership.

Applications are available at local NRCS offices.
