NPB discusses emerging technology trends at swine innovation summit

The global food system is undergoing change in consumer behavior, new and dynamic business models, and emerging technology. The National Pork Board hosted its first-ever Swine Innovation Summit recently to discuss what the industry can do to address these trends.

Andy Brudtkuhl is the director of emerging technology with the National Pork Board.

“For the last year we’ve been looking at the innovation space and emerging technologies and trying to figure out what the role is of the pork checkoff and one of those that stood out is this idea of being a catalyst to build an ecosystem.”

He tells Brownfield they discussed what pork producers need to know and how they must adapt to the changing trends facing food production.

“There was a lot of talk about sustainability, environment, animal welfare, and how you can use technologies to augment those and then how you can use technology to tell the story of what our producers are already doing out in the field,” he says.

Brudtkuhl says there will likely be similar events in the future.
