Not much pressure for ’23 FB discussion

A focus on the 2023 Farm Bill is likely not going to happen until late next year. That’s according to University of Missouri ag economist Scott Brown who says there’s a long way to go, “Of course, with midterm elections coming up in 2022 that may delay any real discussion here in 2022. But at the end of the day I’m not sure where we end up.”

Brown says budgets WILL matter but he expects the next farm bill to look a lot like the current one.

“There seems to be not a lot of pressure right now for change just given the economics that we see out here today.”

Brown says everyone will wait to see which parties are in control of the House and Senate late next year and the bulk of the debate will be in 2023.
