Northeast Iowa farmer still dealing with summer wind storm

The impact of a summer windstorm lingers on a farm in northeast Iowa.

Bob Hemesath of Calmar says a storm with high winds damaged his grain handling facility earlier this year.

“So we’re not able to dry corn at our place, so it’s been a good harvest but just different.”

He tells Brownfield a local coop is drying the corn, but it hasn’t slowed down harvest that much.

“They’ve been really good about hours of operation and working with us, so I’d say it really hasn’t affected our progress much at all.”

Hemesath is half done with harvest and says damage from the storm can also be seen in fields.

“Had some green snap, some downed corn. We just harvested that here in the last couple days and it was surprisingly pretty good considering the wind.”
