North Iowa farmer wraps up harvest

North-central Iowa farmer Casey Schlichting recently finished harvest.

“Had a couple hiccups with the combine, but nothing that burned a day or anything. So it went pretty well.”

The Clear Lake corn and soybean grower tells Brownfield yields surpassed his expectations.

“For it not raining in June and July, we were pleasantly surprised.”

Statewide, USDA pegs Iowa’s corn harvest at 60 percent done.  That’s a week ahead of the five-year average, with farmers in northeast and southcentral Iowa the furthest behind.

For soybeans, harvest is six days ahead of normal at 83 percent done.

Other activities during the week included fall tillage and fertilizer applications.
